Hospital Essentials

Since my sister-in-law just asked me what she should pack for the hospital I thought I would make a post on it.

Baby

1.      A few outfits, in different sizes, for at the hospital. With Curtis we had only newborn and he wasn’t able to wear them home because he was too big. Don’t forget socks.
2.      Going home outfit. Something cute that you like.
3.      Nursing Cover if your breastfeeding. That way you don’t have to worry about your guest seeing you.
4.      Mittens. Our kids would never keep these on so we had to use socks.
Other than that I didn’t need anything else for the kids. My hospital had diapers, wipes, baby wash, receiving blankets, and pacifiers. So if you have a preference on those bring those along too.

Parent(s) bag

1.      Comfy/not good clothes for both you and your significant other. You don’t know how long you will be there and those gowns are not that comfy. But you also don’t want to ruin anything too nice.
2.      Going home outfit. I brought loose comfy clothes but something that was a little nicer than my lounge clothes.
3.      Toothbrush, toothpaste, Chap Stick, hair ties, makeup bag, blow dryer, body wash, and shampoo.
4.      Older undies. Don’t want to ruin the good stuff ;)
5.      Cards. Brian and I had these by chance in the suit case from a different trip when we had our second and man it was a live saver.
6.      Camera/Phone/Video Camera and all the chargers.
7.      Book. This helped me relax when the labor was dragging on.

8.      If your blind as a bat like me you need your contact stuff and glasses

What where your must haves for the hospital? Did they change with the second, third, etc?

Another one (two) bites the dust

Well once Curtis got better than Tori and Nathan had to get the cold also.

Nathan has a very sensitive gag reflex so anytime he gets couching too much or upset he pukes. So needless to say we have had to wash the bedding a few times this week :( That's not including other things he has gotten sick on (sorry honey).

Poor baby girl at the doctors
Here's hoping that everyone is better this weekend. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Spring time, cold time

You know ir's spring time in our house when everyone gets a cold :(

Curtis never takes naps anymore, so this weekend when he feel asleep 3 different times I knew something was up. I'm all for the snuggles but hate seeing him sick.

Here is to warmer weather and a healthy house hold!

Shitty night, take two

Well turns out that wasn't the end of our sewer problems. We think that originally it was just a clogged line from Curtis using too much tp but then when Brian snaked it the wet tp got lodged in the pipe going out to the septic and froze there with our -30 plus nights.

When Brian did laundry the water came back up into the bathroom, which Curtis found when he went in and went pee. We didn't think that big of a deal of it because the toilet wasn't on tight yet and we had no other water coming up anywhere. Oh boy where we wrong. A few days later we found 3-4 pieces of the ceiling in the basement bedroom, aka momma’s book room, had fallen down. The water from the bathroom had gone down in the vent into the ceiling.

So the next thing we were thinking was that our septic needed to be pumped. Again not the case but we didn't know this till they were already out here to pump it. $425 later they told us that they think the line was frozen. It took Brian and his dad two different tries but they finally got it unclogged. Now this summer Brian will have to go under the porch and try to insulate around the pipe to prevent this from happening again.

Guess at least we now know where our septic is and where not to put the pool this summer J Sure glad that is over with, even though I’m still waiting for the toilets or showers to back up again.

Shitty Night.....

So last night Brian and I got home from looking at new cars, which was a bust L, hoping to have a quiet night (as much as you can with 3 kids). Earlier in the day Brian had to take the toilet off the pipe in our bathroom because we had a clog somewhere which was leading to the toilets not flushing right and stuff to come up in the bathtubs/showers. This all started the week of the Super Bowl when Curtis said he had put a lot of toilet paper down the toilet. We plunged it and thought everything was fine. On Super Bowl Sunday Curtis kept trying to flush the toilet but it wasn’t working. We thought that it was just him doing it too fast.

So any ways Brian had thought he had it fixed. Well guess it wasn’t. We are sitting in the living room and hear the bubbles in the bathroom followed by Nathan yelling, “Dad there is stuff coming up in the bathtub!” At this point we have to go down into the basement and open up the pipe leading to the septic. I try to help Brian so he doesn’t have to do it all on his own. This is where is gets interesting, and sorry for the TMI. We are letting the water leak out slowly so we can hold the bucket up to it and not get it on us or the basement floor (Thank goodness we don’t have the carpet down yet). It was taking a long time so we decided to open it up a little more. Brian warned me that it would have a lot of pressure once it got so far open. Boy was he right. All of a sudden it comes off and I panic. Needless to say we both got covered. On top of that Tori is ready for a bottle and I can’t even wash my hands to grab her. I went up stairs and used baby wipes and a crap ton of hand sanitizer and grabbed her right before she got into the mess. Ran back up stairs and called my parents (Thank goodness they live 10 minutes from us and where there in no time) so they could watch her and keep the boys out of our hair so we could finish the job. We couldn’t see anything in the pipe so Brian had to go take off the toilet in the boys’ bathroom (he thinks he pushed the block to the V there). All of a sudden I hear running water and more water is coming through the open pipe downstairs. Needless to say I got more on me. Brian then ran the snake down the pipe and we think we now have whatever was blocked pushed through. We were able to take a shower last night but the one toilet is still not hooked back up because brian has to cut the bolts. So the real test will be tonight when Brian does a load of laundry when he gets out of work. Pray it works!

Easy Homemade Valentine’s Day Crayons

Easy Homemade Valentine’s Day Crayons

This year I decided we would not have the kids give out candy valentines because they get enough of that anyways. My oldest Curtis loves the homemade crayons they have at speech so I thought why not make some of those. So off I went to pinterest (don’t know what I would do without it). I found these free printable at the link below:

Items you need:
Old broken crayons (or new ones)
Heart shaped tray (We used one for candy but you could use others. Got at JoAnn Fabric)
Microwave (Or you could use the oven)

We started with the boys picking out 4 crayons each and then taking off the wrapping. (Second batch we used 5 crayons to make them a little bigger). I then had the boys break them into pieces and put them in each heart. After we got the tray filled I put them in the microwave. First I started with 2 minutes and then would lightly shake the crayons around and then did 30 seconds until they were all or mostly melted. We then set them outside to cool. Being in the single digits for this really helped, guess the cold is good for some things, lol. Once they were cool I just pulled back the rubber and they popped right out.

The kids really loved doing this and I got rid of most of the broken crayons lying around the house.
